Michigan Rips Iowa to Give Rosen 300th Win as U-M Head Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan volleyball head coach Mark Rosen earned his 300th win at U-M following a 25-13, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19 triumph over Iowa in the annual Pink Match Saturday night (Oct. 12) at Cliff Keen Arena.

Rosen now has a 300-182 record in his 15th season in Ann Arbor. Rosen also picked up his 500th career win on Aug. 31 and has a 509-219 overall record in his 22nd season as a head coach.
Senior Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) led the U-M offense with 17 kills on the night, while sophomore Ally Davis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Junior Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) had 49 assists, eight digs and four blocks, while sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had a team-high 13 digs. Cross added six blocks.
Michigan's defense held Iowa to a -.097 hitting percentage to take the first set, 25-13. A kill from Cross put U-M up 5-4, and the Wolverines never looked back. Iowa took timeout after an Erwin kill made it 10-5 Maize and Blue. A termination from Goode put U-M up 14-7, while Cross' kill made it 18-12. Erwin served out the final six points of the set as Davis' kill gave the Wolverines the early advantage.
The Maize and Blue rallied from behind to take the second set 25-23. Iowa scored the set's first four points, but Michigan took the 7-6 advantage on Erwin's swing. Iowa was up 13-11 after a service ace and 17-14 on blocks. Davis' kill gave Michigan a 22-21 lead, but Iowa scored the next two points on two U-M errors. The comeback started with a Hawkeye error, continued on sophomore Krystalyn Goode's (River Hills, Wis./Nicolet) solo block and ended on a service ace from fifth-year senior Brittany Lee (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral).
Iowa won the third set, hitting .353. Michigan had a 5-4 lead on a Cross kill, but the Hawkeye moved ahead, 10-6. The Wolverines battled back to tie the set at 13 on a Morales ace. The Wolverines then moved ahead 19-18 on a Hawkeye attack error, but it was their last lead of the set. Tied at 21, Iowa scored two straight points and closed out the set on a Michigan error.
The Wolverines hit .452 in the fourth set to snap a mini two-match losing streak. The Maize and Blue went up 4-1 on back-to-back Cole kills. It was 10-6 after a Dannemiller kill, as Iowa called timeout. A Cole kill was followed by blocks from Goode and Erwin, making it 16-9. The Wolverines went up 21-12 on Cross' termination. Iowa closed the set to 21-17, but two kills from Davis and a match-ending termination by Dannemiller gave the Maize and Blue the victory.
U-M hit .347 for the match and held a 51-38 dig advantage. The Wolverines also recorded 9.5 team blocks.
Michigan travels to Madison, Wis., for a Friday night (Oct. 18) match at Wisconsin. The match starts at 7 p.m. CDT (8 p.m. EDT).
NOTES
• The match was Michigan's annual "Pink Match" at Cliff Keen Arena. Michigan wore pink jerseys that were auctioned off with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
• Head coach Mark Rosen is now 300-182 in 15 seasons in Ann Arbor. He joins Carol Hutchins (softball), Red Berenson (ice hockey), Bev Plocki (women's gymnastics), Matt Anderson (water polo) and Kurt Golder (men's gymnastics) as active Michigan coaches with 300 wins.
• Michigan now has a 36-26 series advantage on Iowa.
• Michigan improves to 3-2 in four-set matches this season.
• Sophomore Ally Davis set a career high with 13 kills. Her previous high was 10 set against North Florida on Aug. 24, 2012.
• Senior Lexi Erwin led Michigan in kills (17) for the 50th time in her career.
• Every Michigan hitter had at least a .278 hitting percentage on the night, led by Davis' .429.
