Postgame Notes: #3 Michigan 5, Ohio State 4

Michigan concluded its first Big Ten home-and-home series against Ohio State tonight, sweeping the Buckeyes with a 5-4 win in its first Big Ten conference road contest.
U-M played its first regular-season game on a Monday night since Jan. 18, 1982, a 5-2 loss to Michigan State at Yost Ice Arena. Michigan played a Monday night exhibition contest against the U.S. NTDP U-18 team on Oct. 3, 2011, and earned a 3-1 victory.
Michigan improves to 74-33-11 in the all-time series against Ohio State. The Wolverines have won the last six meetings between the two sides.
Junior forward Alex Guptill and freshman forward JT Compher extended their team-high point streaks to five games. Guptill had an assist, and Compher recorded his first multiple-goal game in his collegiate career to help the Wolverines earn the victory.
Compher recorded his team-best fifth multiple-point game of the season. He now has nine points (five goals, four assists) in his last five contests.
Dating back to last year, U-M is 18-3-2 in its last 23 games, a run that started with a weekend sweep of Ohio State Feb. 22-23, 2013, at Value City Arena.
Michigan has played one-goal games in nine of its last 10 and has a 7-2 record in those contests. The Wolverines were 4-6-0 in one-goal games in 2012-13.
U-M finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, snapping a five-game scoring streak on the man-advantage and marking just the third game that Michigan has been held scoreless on the power play. U-M improved to 2-1-0 when scoreless on the power play.
Michigan finished the night 5-for-7 on the penalty kill and is now 49-for-61 (80.3 percent) for the season on the PK.
Twelve different players recorded points for the Wolverines, who were led by Compher (2g), Michael Downing (g, a) and Luke Moffatt (2a).
Freshmen, JT Compher (2g), Michael Downing (g, a), Nolan De Jong (a) and Alex Kile (a) all recorded points. A U-M freshman has tallied a point in each game so far this season.
After tallying a first-period goal tonight, U-M has outscored its opponents, 13-3, in the opening frame this season.
