• Freshman goalie Jared Rutledge earned the win in his first start since Nov. 30 in a loss at Ferris State. He is now 2-4-0 on the season in seven appearances (six starts).
• Rutledge had 21 saves on 23 shots faced and is now 2-1 against MSU.
• Freshman Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves scored two goals and tallied one assist in the winning effort; it is Nieves' third multi-point game of the season and fourth goal (and sixth point) in as many games against the Spartans.
• It is also Nieves' first multi-point game in which he recorded both a goal and an assist and his first career multi-goal game, tying him with Luke Moffatt and Alex Guptill for second on the team in that department; A.J. Treais is first with two such games.
• Nieves' two-goal-game ties Moffatt (Jan. 18 at Lake Superior State), Treais (Oct. 19 vs. Bentley, Oct. 26 vs. Miami) and Guptill (Oct. 19 vs. Bentley).
• Sophomore Phil DiGiuseppe had three assists, a career high in both assists and points. He now has seven points (1-6-7) in seven career games against MSU.
• DiGiuseppe's three-assist performance is an individual game high for Michigan on the season (for assists). The previous was two (done 14 times).
• DiGiuseppe leads the team with three multi-assist games and is second on the team with five multi-point games (Treais, 6).
• The three-point efforts of DiGiuseppe and Nieves tie Moffatt for an individual game high (Jan. 18 at LSSU).
• Junior Derek DeBlois scored his fourth goal of the season and his most recent since Jan. 18 at LSSU. He now has five points (3-2-5) in 10 career games against the Spartans.
• It is the first time Michigan has had multiple players record multiple points since the Jan. 18 game at LSSU ( Andrew Sinelli, 1-1-2; Jacob Trouba, 1-1-2; Moffatt 2-1-3).
• Lee Moffie's three penalties tie a game high for the Wolverines set by Jacob Trouba (Jan. 12 v. Alaska, Dec. 14 vs. Western Michigan, Nov. 2 at Northern Michigan) and Lindsay Sparks (Nov. 3 at NMU)
• The Wolverines are now 3-1 in their last four games against the Spartans and will face them again tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 2) at Joe Louis Arena.
• Michigan was 1-3 on the power play with four shots. U-M is now 16-for-111 (14.4 percent) on the season.
• The Wolverines were 4-4 on the penalty kill, allowing only one shot. They are now 88-for-105 (83.8 percent) on the season.
• Michigan improves to 10-16-2 overall and 7-13-2-2 in conference play.
