RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- The University of Michigan women's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2012-13 schedule with a 12th-place finish in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 12) at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. U-M shot 313 Sunday (Feb. 10), 310 Monday (Feb. 11) and 311 today for a 934.
Sophomore Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) paced the Wolverine individuals, finishing in a tie for 34th place with rounds of 75, 77 and 77 (229). Grogan had three birdies in her final round and shot an even-par 36 on the back nine. Classmate Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) tied for 40th in the tournament, shooting scores of 78, 77 and 76 (231). Junior Alicia Weber (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) tied for 68th place with a 239 aggregate score, while classmate Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep) finished tied for 74th place with a three-day total of 243. Sophomore Devon Compton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek HS) placed 77th in the tourney with a 245 total, while junior Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS), playing as an individual, finished 85th after a three-day total of 254.
Alabama won the tournament by 13 strokes over Arkansas and 14 over Texas Tech. Michigan defeated regional foe Kent State and Big Ten teams Indiana and Nebraska.
The Wolverines waste no time getting back to competition as they head to Tallahassee, Fla., Friday through Sunday, Feb. 15-17, for Florida State's Match Up Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played at the Southwood Golf Club.

Lauren Grogan and Linda Luo are the only Wolverines to have started all five events this season. Devon Compton has played in all five events with three starts.
Lauren Grogan was the Wolverines' top scorer for the second time this season. Grogan led the Wolverines at the Tar Heel Invitational Sept. 22-23 with rounds of 78-77-78=233.
The 77 in the final round was Grogan's lowest third round of the season, surpassing the 78 she had at the Tar Heel Invitational.
