
Grogan, Luo Pace Michigan to 12th-Place Effort at Clover Cup

MESA, Ariz. -- With top-30 finishes from sophomores Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) and Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS), the University of Michigan women's golf team posted a 921 54-hole total to close 12th today (Sunday, March 10) at the 2013 Clover Cup Invitational at the Longbow Golf Club.
With Friday's first round cancelled due to heavy rains and lightning, the 16-team field doubled up the second day as the Wolverines posted team totals of 303 and 307 putting the Wolverines 10th at 610. A final round 311 saw U-M drop two spots to close 12th with a 921 total.
Grogan tied for 24th individually to lead U-M for the third time this season after posting a 225 total (74-75-76), while classmate Luo tied for 28th at 226 (74-73-79) to help the duo finish 1-2 for the fifth time in seven events this season. Additional starting Wolverine finishes included junior Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) tying for 59th at 234 (78-77-79), freshman Catherine Peters (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence HS) tying for 68th at 237 (78-82-77) and junior Alicia Weber (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) tying for 81st at 241 (77-82-82).
Playing as an individual junior Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) posted a season-best 54-hole total of 229 (74-78-77), bettering her prior best by seven strokes, while sophomore Devon Compton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek HS) tied for 54th at 232 (72-80-70). Junior Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep) and freshman Ella Pendy (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point South HS) each tied for 77th at 240.
The Wolverines return home before heading to San Diego, Calif.,(March 31-April 2) for the SDSU Farms Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played at the Farm Golf Club.
