Trouba Selected as a First Team All-American

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman defenseman Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Mich.), who was third in scoring for the University of Michigan ice hockey team in 2012-13, has been named to the first team on the CCM Hockey All American West Team, selected by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Trouba is not only the lone freshman on the 2012-13 First Team All-America squads; he is the first freshman in the history of U-M ice hockey to be named a first team All American.
A total of 65 Wolverine players have received All-America honors a total of 86 times. Fifty-three players have received All-America first team recognition and 12 have picked up second team honors.
"I really wasn't expecting this at all," said Trouba. "It is a pretty neat just to be considered one of the best players in college hockey when you see how many great players there are at this level.
"I remember when I first walked into Yost and saw the pictures of those great players that played at Michigan, I thought that was pretty cool," added Trouba. "Now to be named a Michigan All-American is very special."
The CCHA's Best Offensive Defenseman, first team All-CCHA and All-CCHA Rookie honoree was just named Michigan's Hal Downs Most Valuable Player and the Vic Heyliger Outstanding Defenseman this past Saturday (April 6) at the annual end of season Dekers Blue Line Banquet. Trouba tallied 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points this season.
His goals scored and point total ranked best in the nation among all freshman defensemen. His 115 shots on goal were the most of any freshman defenseman in the NCAA and second most for all defensemen nationally.
His 12 goals is also the second-highest total of any freshman defenseman in U-M history, and his 29 points list him third all-time best of any U-M freshman defenseman.
His trophy case includes gold medals from this year's World Junior Championship in Russia, where he was named the tournament's best defenseman, and the 2011 World Under-18 Championship, and silver from the Under-17 event in 2010.
Trouba recently signed with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League, making him the first player to turn pro after his freshman season at U-M since Max Pacioretty (2007-08) made the jump five years ago.
