RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team shot 324 Tuesday (April 2) for its best round of the tournament and finished 14th at the SDSU Farms Invitational, hosted by San Diego State at The Farms Golf Club. The Wolverines posted rounds of 325, 331 and 324 for a 980 total in the three-day, 54-hole event.
Sophomore Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) fired a two-over-par 74 today for Michigan's low round of the event. She played the front nine (her second nine) in even par with two birdies and two bogeys and finished in a tie for 37th with her 235 aggregate score (82-79-74).
Sophomore Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) also logged a top-40 finish as she posted three rounds in the 70s. She opened with back-to-back 79s before shooting 78 in the final round for a 236 total and tie for 39th.
Rounding out the Wolverine starters were junior Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) in a tie for 69th at 255 (83-84-88), junior Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) in a tie for 71st at 256 (81-89-86), and sophomore Devon Compton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek HS) in 81st at 269 (91-92-86). Competing as an individual, freshman Catherine Peters (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence HS) tied for 65th with a 249 total (83-85-81).
Led by medalist Sophia Popov, top-ranked Southern Cal won the team title, shooting an even-par 288 in the final round for a 21-shot margin of victory over No. 8 Arizona. All five USC individuals finished among the top 11.
Michigan will be back in action next week at the Marsh Landing Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (April 8-9) in Jacksonville, Fla. It will be the team's final event before the Big Ten Championships (April 26-28).

Linda Luo was the low Wolverine for the fourth time in eight events this season and the second time in last three tournaments. She also led Michigan at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 15-16), third; Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate (Oct. 28-29), tie-15th; and FSU's Match Up Invitational (Feb. 15-17), tie-18th.
Lauren Grogan had a team-high eight birdies during the tournament, all on different holes. She made three birdies in each of the first two rounds.
Yugene Lee was back in the starting lineup for the first time since the Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 12-14). Between starts, she competed as an individual at two of Michigan's four tournaments.
Lauren Grogan and Linda Luo have been in the starting lineup in all eight events this season.
