2015 U-M Women's Gymnastics Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team announced its 2015 schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 1), and it features five home meets at Crisler Center. The opponents include six of last year's NCAA Championships qualifiers and eight teams that finished in the top 25 of the GymInfo/Troester Collegiate Rankings.
This year, Michigan will play host to the Big Ten Championships (March 21), where it will look to defend its title from a year ago on its own floor inside Crisler Center. With Maryland and Rutgers joining the conference, the meet will now feature 10 teams and will thus be split into two sessions. In the five previous instances the Big Ten Championships have been held in Ann Arbor (1982, 1990, 1993, 2001, 2008), Michigan has won the title four times.
The Wolverines open the regular season on the road, facing Georgia (Jan. 10) inside Stegeman Coliseum, the site of Michigan's NCAA Regional victory last season. The following Saturday (Jan. 17), the Wolverines travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State and West Virginia in a tri-meet.
Following the matchup with the Buckeyes, Michigan faces four consecutive Big Ten opponents, including home meets against Illinois (Jan. 25) and Nebraska (Jan. 31) and road meets against Maryland (Feb. 7) and Michigan State (Feb. 13). The Wolverines are back at home on Feb. 20, hosting defending national champion Oklahoma. Michigan will then host North Carolina State (Feb. 28) before heading west to close out the regular season at Utah (March 6).
The postseason begins on March 14, as Michigan will compete against Minnesota, Iowa, Penn State and Rutgers at one of the conference's Big Five meets in Minneapolis, Minn. The top three teams at each of the two Big Five meets (Nebraska hosts the other, with Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois and Maryland) will advance to the evening session of the Big Ten Championships the following week. The Big Ten's regular-season champion, determined by win-loss record (including ties), will also be crowned on March 14. Each Big Ten team will compete in five separate dual meets against conference opponents and in one Big Five meet against the other four teams, assuring every team competes against each other.
The NCAA Regional Championships will be held on April 4 at one of the following sites: Iowa State, Auburn, California, Ohio State, West Virginia and Oklahoma. The top two teams at each site will advance to the NCAA Championships, set to be held April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas.
