ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Junior Dylan Bosch and freshman Paul Powers of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team were named Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week and co-Freshman of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday (Oct. 28) by the conference office.
Both men were instrumental in helping Michigan to wins over Indiana, Louisville and Texas last weekend (Oct. 24-25) at Canham Natatorium. Bosch claimed three NCAA 'B' times over the course of the two days, winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:43.93) and taking second in both the 200-yard (1:47.13) and 400-yard (3:50.69) individual medley. He also contributed to a win on the 200-yard medley relay (1:26.96).
Among the national ranks, Bosch is second in the 200-yard butterfly, third in the 200-yard IM and fourth in the 400-yard IM. He receives a weekly honor from the Big Ten for the eighth time in his career (six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week, two-time Big Ten Swimmer of the Week).
Powers had an impressive home debut, winning the 50-yard freestyle (19.79) and swimming legs on three winning relay teams -- the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:18.98), 200-yard medley relay (1:26.96) and 400-yard freestyle relay (2:55.47). He also finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (44.97). His time in the 50-yard freestyle is currently third fastest in the nation and is already eighth-best all-time at Michigan.
Bosch and Powers are the second pair of U-M swimmers to collect Big Ten weekly honors this season, following senior Richard Funk (Swimmer) and Aaron Whitaker (Freshman) back on Oct. 7.
The Wolverines will host their annual alumni/intrasquad meet this Saturday (Nov. 1) at 10:30 a.m. at Canham Natatorium to coincide with homecoming weekend. The next official competition is a tri-meet next Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7-8) with Penn State and Virginia in State College, Pa.
