Michigan and Michigan Tech met for the 219th time since the series began in 1927. The Wolverines fell to 122-93-4, with a 29-53-2 record in Houghton. Michigan is now 22-5-0 against Michigan Tech in the Red Berenson era. The Wolverines have dropped six straight games at Michigan Tech, with their last win in Houghton coming on Oct. 24, 1981 (W, 3-0). Michigan fell to 1-4 against ranked competition this season.
Junior forward Andrew Copp recorded his first goal of the season in the first period, snapping a six-game goal-scoring drought to start the campaign.
Sophomore forward Max Shuart scored his first career goal at Michigan in the third period. Nolan De Jong picked up an assist on the play, his second straight night with a helper.
Michigan allowed four power-play goals in a game for the first time since Dec. 30, 2010, when it went 1-for-5 on the penalty kill in a 6-5 win over Colorado College in the 2010 Great Lakes Invitational Championship Game.
The Wolverines allowed the most goals in a game since a 7-2 loss at Michigan State on Nov. 10, 2012.
Michigan finished the night 0-for-7 on the power play, the most power-play chances the Wolverines have had in a game without scoring since Dec. 27, 2013, when Michigan was held scoreless in eight chances against Western Michigan in the Great Lakes Invitational.
