Wolverines Cruise Past Davenport for Exhibition Victory

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team had four players score in double figures and used a 22-4 first-half run to distance itself from Davenport en route to a 74-39 exhibition win on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 2) at Crisler Center.
Freshman Katelynn Flaherty led the way offensively for Michigan, finishing with 17 points and six assists. She was 6-of-12 from the floor, hitting five three-pointers. Senior Cyesha Goree narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds
Michigan fell behind 5-0 to start the contest, but Flaherty hit a jumper at the top of the key followed by back-to-back triples to put Michigan on top 8-5 with 17:06 showing on the clock. The Wolverines extended their run to 22-4, taking a 22-9 lead off a Goree layup from Madison Ristovski with 11:14 left in the half.
The Panthers answered with a 10-2 run to close within five points, 24-19, with 7:53 to play. Michigan then scored seven of the next nine points to push its lead back to 10 points, 31-21, off another Flaherty triple at the 4:50 mark.
The Maize and Blue scored four of the final six points of the half to take a 35-23 halftime lead. Flaherty led all scorers with 14, Goree chipped in eight, Shannon Smith had seven, and Siera Thompson scored six points as Michigan shot 44.8 percent (13-for-29) from the floor. U-M hit 40 percent of its triples (4-for-10), all coming from Flaherty in the frame.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 19-point lead off seven straight points -- a Thompson triple, an Nicole Elmblad steal and score and a Smith jumper in transition -- in the first 1:22 of the second half for a 42-23 lead.
After Davenport got within 19 points again at the 8:07 mark, the Wolverines ripped off seven straight points from Goree and Elmblad to push the margin back to 26, 58-32, with 5:54 left. Michigan's final scoring margin of 35 points was its largest of the game.
