Michigan earned its second non-conference sweep of the season with a 6-0 win over the Engineers. Michigan and RPI have met 13 times, with the Engineers owning a 7-5-1 advantage in those contests. Michigan is 3-1-0 all-time against RPI at Yost Ice Arena.
The Wolverines earned their first shutout of the season and first shutout since Nov. 22, 2013, a 6-0 win against Niagara. Michigan has now won three straight games for the first time this season.
Michigan is also over the .500 mark for the first time this season with five wins the last six games, all at Yost Ice Arena. Michigan is 7-6-0 on the campaign with six of those wins coming at Yost.
Sophomore defenseman Kevin Lohan scored his second goal of the season and now has points in five of the last six games (2G, 4A). Lohan's goal gives Michigan defensemen a combined eight goals in 13 games this season. In 2013-14, Michigan defensemen scored eight goals in 35 games.
Alex Kile is tied for the team lead with seven goals this season and has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) overall in 13 games. Kile recorded six points (two goals, four assists) in 26 games last season.
Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves matched a career high with three points (two goals, assist) on the night, equaling the three points he recorded on March 8, 2014, in a 7-1 win against Michigan State. Nieves has points in six of his last seven games, with eight points (four goals, four assists) in that span.
Zach Hyman is also well on his way to a career year, leading the team with 15 points (six goals, nine assists) on the season. Hyman set a career high with 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 2013-14.
Tyler Motte set a new career high for assists with three in the game, while freshmen Tony Calderone (goal, assist) and Cutler Martin (two assists) recorded their first multiple-point games. Calderone scored his first goal in a Wolverine uniform.
Goaltender Zach Nagelvoort recorded an assist on Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves' power-play goal in the second period, his first career point and the first point by a Michigan goaltender since Shawn Hunwick recorded an assist in a 5-2 win against Western Michigan on Nov. 5, 2011, at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan finished the night 2-for-4 on the man advantage and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. The Wolverines snapped a 0-for-12 drought on the man advantage and recorded two power-play goals in a game for the third time this season. Michigan was perfect on the penalty kill for the sixth time this season.
For the seventh straight game, Michigan outshot its opponent, holding a 33-26 edge on shots for the game. Michigan has held the shot advantage in 11 of 13 games with a 7-4 record in those contests.
