ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior/junior midfielder Colin McAtee of the University of Michigan men's soccer team has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his two-goal and one-assist performance in wins over Oakland and No. 12 Michigan State, the conference announced Monday (Nov. 3).
Against Oakland (Oct. 29), McAtee notched U-M's quickest goal of the season to start a match in the third minute, and later assisted on a Marcos Ugarte goal in the 64th in a 3-1 win over the Golden Grizzlies. In a crucial Big Ten victory over No. 12 Michigan State on Nov. 3, McAtee secured the 3-2 win with a score off an assist from Ahinga Selemani in the 58th minute for his eighth tally of the season. McAtee's eight goals currently ranks second in the Big Ten this season. He also leads the team in points with 18.
The conference accolade is the second of McAtee's career, as he previously took home the honor on Oct. 13 this season for his four-goal week in victories over then-No. 6 Notre Dame and Rutgers.
Michigan wraps of the 2014 regular season against Ohio State on Wednesday (Nov. 5) at 7:30 p.m. from U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will also serve as Senior Night for five Wolverines in Adam Grinwis, Tyler Arnone, Ben Manko, Nick Lewin and Ugarte.
