
Ryan Earns Second Big Ten Weekly Honor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior linebacker Jake Ryan of the University of Michigan football team has been named Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday (Nov. 3). This is Ryan's second weekly conference honor of the season after he also earned co-Defensive Player of the Week recognition for his performance in the Wolverines' 18-13 victory over Penn State.
Ryan recorded a game-high 11 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, and two forced fumbles in Michigan's 34-10 win over Indiana. His two forced fumbles tied for the second-highest single-game total in Michigan history. The two forced fumbles also were the most by a Big Ten individual in a conference game and tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in the NCAA this season. The Westlake, Ohio, native, who had 10 solo stops against the Hoosiers, recorded his third straight double-digit tackle game and fifth this season.
Ryan has 79 tackles, including 12.5 for loss with 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles this season. He is tied for second in the Big Ten and for 13th in the NCAA in tackles-for-loss and tied for seventh in the conference with his average of 8.8 tackles per game. His 34 solo tackles in conference games rank second in the Big Ten.
In his career, Ryan has registered 234 tackles, including 44.0 for loss with 9.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and six pass breakups. His seven forced fumbles are tied for second on U-M's all-time career list, and his 44.0 tackles-for-loss tie him for seventh in school history.
Michigan continues its season Saturday (Nov. 8) when it travels to Northwestern. The Wolverines and Wildcats are set for a 3:30 p.m. start on ESPN2.
