ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Junior Dylan Bosch and freshman Evan White of the No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team each picked up weekly honors from the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday (Dec. 9). Bosch was named Men's Swimmer of the Week, while White was pegged as Co-Freshman of the Week. Each swimmer is receiving the honor for the second time this season.
Bosch recorded three top-three finishes at the AT&T Winter National Championships last week (Dec. 3-6) in Greensboro, North Carolina. He won the 200-yard butterfly for the second consecutive year at 1:41.65, an NCAA 'A' time that will send him back to the NCAA Championships where he'll have a chance to defend his national title. He also finished second in the 200-yard IM (1:44.27), third in the 400-yard IM (3:44.92) and would have qualified for the event final in the 500-yard freestyle (4:19.31) had he chose to swim it again. He claimed NCAA 'B' times in all three of those races and picked up a fourth as part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team (6:22.31).
White picked up three top-10 finishes, taking fourth in the 200-yard IM (1:45.28), seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.12) and 10th in the 100-yard butterfly (47.36). All three performances were NCAA 'B' cuts. He also etched his name into the U-M record book, as he now stands 10th on the program's all-time top times list in the 200-yard IM.
In the Big Ten, Bosch ranks first in both the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM, second in the 400-yard IM and third in the 500-yard freestyle. White is second in the 200-yard butterfly (behind Bosch), fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Wolverines will be back in action in 2015, squaring off with Notre Dame and Northwestern on Saturday, Jan. 10, in a tri-meet at Canham Natatorium. The meet will begin at noon. Admission is free.
