Sandoval Named Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Michigan assistant director of strength and conditioning Bo Sandoval was named the NSCA National Collegiate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year, announced at the NSCA conventional held Jan. 7-10 at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Sandoval is in his sixth year as a strength and conditioning coach with the Olympic Sports teams at Michigan.
"This prestigious award from the NSCA recognizes Bo Sandoval's continued excellence in strength and conditioning at the University of Michigan and contributions within the profession," said Mike Favre, Michigan Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning. "Bo is an asset to the teams he works with, our Olympic strength and conditioning department and the athletic department as a whole. I consider it an honor to work alongside such a quality professional such as Bo Sandoval. In addition, this award is a shining example of the importance the Olympic strength and conditioning department places on being 'leaders and best' in all we do."
Sandoval currently designs and implements supplemental performance programs for men's lacrosse and women's basketball but has worked with a variety of Olympic Sports teams during his time at U-M (2009-current). He specializes in providing comprehensive training programs focused on multi-year development. Sandoval's individualized training programs are influenced by the requirements of each athlete's specific competition needs and are based on each team's competition calendar.
Prior to joining the Michigan staff, Sandoval was the strength and conditioning coordinator at the Olympic Training Center from 2007 through Sept. 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While at the OTC, he oversaw the daily operations of the strength and conditioning facility along with developing training programs for numerous Olympic sports. This included national and world team members from volleyball, tae kwon do, judo, wrestling, boxing, fencing, figure skating, marathon, modern pentathlon, synchronized swimming and men's gymnastics.
Sandoval is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is a level two senior coach with United States Weightlifting. Sandoval was awarded the Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach by the NSCA, which recognizes the professional achievement and competence of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists via a formalized assessment of their practical/applied employment experience. Sandoval is certified in CPR/AED through the American Red Cross and received his Functional Movement Systems Certification in 2013.
