Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On Michigan State's game tonight ... "I think they're playing harder and they're playing better. They've got a certain amount of confidence maybe they didn't have at the GLI. We played more like they're playing now, at GLI, where we had the desperation. Tonight, they had the desperation, and we didn't. Our power play could have gotten us back in the game late, but that didn't happen. Give them credit, they came in here and played a good game, and we didn't play well enough."
On the play of Dylan Larkin ... "I thought at times he was really good, and at times he tried to be too good, trying to do too much. He was probably overly excited to play this game."
On the disallowed goal ... "We couldn't tell if he blew the whistle or not. Even if he didn't they can always say they meant to blow the whistle. So you can't win on that one."
On the key chances that Michigan couldn't score on ... "We had our chances, absolutely. The faceoff play, where Alex Kile hit the crossbar, and that was a near goal. We had isolated chances that maybe they were going in last week, but they weren't going in tonight."
U-M Sophomore Forward JT Compher
On what Michigan State did to shut down the Michigan offense ... "I think what we can take away from this game is that Michigan State is always going to play hard against us. We're going to get everyone else's best game. Tonight we got a little too pretty. We've got to get back to playing hard, playing gritty, getting to the dirty areas and playing Michigan hockey and not relying on our offense as we have the last couple of weeks."
On if the team had enough quality chances tonight ... "We didn't have enough shots. We need more shots. That's something we talk about each period is getting enough shots on net. He's a good goalie. You've got to get guys in front of him, get dirty chances, get rebounds, and tonight we were shooting from the outside and once again trying to be too pretty."
On the play of Dylan Larkin ... "You can't ever take anything away from Dylan's game. He was great tonight. He's been great all season. He competes his butt off every minute of every game. I think he was excited to play in the building, and I think he was excited to play in the rivalry game. This is his first chance playing Michigan State, and he gave it his all tonight."
U-M Freshman Forward Dylan Larkin
On scoring at Joe Louis Arena ... "I thought it was a big goal for the team. We were down 1-0, and I didn't really think about it until I was on the bench and I heard my name announced. That was pretty cool. It was a big goal for our team."
On if this game meant a lot to him, his first at Michigan as a Red Wings draft pick ... "Yeah I think so. You just look around, and it's pretty cool. It's a good feeling to play here. There was a little excitement."
On getting Michigan State again next week ... "I thought we battled hard. There's going to be even more distractions with the outdoor game. I think we're really going to have to focus on what these guys are going to bring and how we're going to counter against them. I'm sure the coaches will have us working to prepare for that. But I think we need to focus with the outdoor game."
