THINGS TO KNOW
The University of Michigan men's soccer team (5-3-3) -- 3-1-2 over its last six matches -- hosts the Duquesne Dukes (3-7-1) for the first time in program history Tuesday (Oct. 13) at 7:30 p.m. from U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines find themselves tied at the top of the B1G table alongside Maryland with eight points (2-1-2).
WOLVERINE BITES
U-M owns the top goal differential in Big Ten Conference play at plus-4, having scored eight goals and allowing four. Overall of the season, the Wolverines have scored 19 goals, while conceding 11. The Wolverines have outshot opponents by a 180-124 and have nearly doubled up opponents in the goal category, owning a 19-11 advantage. Over the last six matches, U-M has outscored opponents, 13-6.
Michigan finds itself as the No. 3 offense in the Big Ten with 19 goals on the year. U-M also ranks third in shots at 16.36 a contest. Conversely, U-M has allowed 11 goals on the season (1.00/match), which ranks second in the Big Ten.
The 5-3-3 mark at the midway point of the season is the best mark at the halfway point in the Chaka Daley era and the best ledger since the 2009 since when U-M began the season with a 7-2 record.
Francis Atuahene has scored a goal in five of his last six matches. Over that span, he has also dished out three assists and has 32 shots -- with 19 coming on goal. Atuahene also paces a freshman class that has contributed ten of U-M's 19 goals on the season. The Accra, Ghana, native ranks sixth nationally in shots per game (4.36) and No. 10 in the country in shots on goal per contest (2), as well as No. 16 in the country in goals per game (0.73) and No. 14 in points per game (1.73). Both marks rank second in the Big Ten.
Junior Rylee Woods ranks fifth in conference in assists with four, while senior William Mellors-Blair ranks ninth with three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Louro ranks second in the B1G in saves with 40.
Following a 1-1 draw at No. 7 Notre Dame on Wednesday (Oct. 7) and the 1-0 loss to Rutgers on Saturday (Oct. 10), U-M now sits at 1-1-3 in overtime matches this season. U-M remained unbeaten against top-10 opponents in overtime after drawing with No. 4 Maryland (0-0) on Sept. 11.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
Duquesne -- The Dukes, who enter the Tuesday tilt with a 3-7-1 overall record, most recently fell to Fordham, 2-1, in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Saturday (Oct. 10). The Dukes first A10 victory came on Oct. 7 over LaSalle in Philadelphia in an OT thriller with Alex Healion netting the game-winner in the 108th minute. In terms of common opponents, DU defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles, 3-1, on Aug. 30.
DU has been outscored on the season 15-12, as well as outshot 152-133. The Dukes are led offensively by the senior tri-captain and forward Colin Phillips, who holds seven goals and three assists for 17 points this season. Defensively, goalkeepers Sam Frymier and Evan Kozlowski are splitting time in between the pipes stopping 80 and 60 percent of shots faced, respectively. Frymier boasts a 1.09 goals-against average and Kozlowski has a 1.54 goals-against average.
