
U-M Goes 1-2 to Win Greater Louisville Classic

» Race-winner Erin Finn has led U-M in eight consecutive scored meets in which she has competed, dating to 2013.
» U-M picked up its second team win of the season in as many meets. Of the 12 runners in uniform, eight set a new 5K personal best.
» E.P. Tom Sawyer Park is the site of the 2015 NCAA Championships (Nov. 21). U-M will revisit the course for the NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet later this month (Oct. 17).

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The eighth-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team claimed a team victory at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday (Oct. 3), placing eight in the field's top 25, including a one-two finish from Erin Finn and Shannon Osika across the line E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The 5K race featured 260 athletes, and U-M was led by Finn in its second team win of the season.
The Maize and Blue defeated five ranked foes and four conference opponents, plus two more programs that received votes in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll.
Finn cruised across the line first for the win in 16:48.23, while Osika crossed less than two seconds later in a personal-best 16:50.09 to finish as the runner-up.
Junior Gina Sereno claimed eighth place with a new PR of 17:11.07, while fifth-year senior Anna Pasternak (17:16.14) took 15th, and junior/sophomore Sophie Linn (17:16.79) also set new personal bests crossing just behind Sereno. Linn took 16th place, but not far behind was junior/sophomore Jaimie Phelan in 18th place, also with a new personal best.
Senior Taylor Manett was 25th and shaved more than a full minute off her 5K PR, clocking 17:24.67.
Today was U-M's first trip to the Greater Louisville Classic since 2011, an event that Michigan won with 81 points.
After a weekend off, U-M returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, with the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet, to be run at the same location in Louisville. The race is set for a 10:15 a.m.
