The University of Michigan women's soccer captain's blog, "The Yellow Armband," is back for the 2015 season! Captains Maddie Clarfield, Corinne Harris, Christina Murillo and Christina Ordonez will alternate blogging weekly during the 2015 season. In this edition, Ordonez recaps a 1-0-1 weekend on the East Coast and discusses the team's excitement about the upcoming homecoming dance and games against Northwestern (Oct. 8) and Illinois (Oct. 11).
Hi Everyone!

The senior class posing for a photo at last year's SAAC Homecoming Dance
This past weekend we were away on the East Coast to play Maryland and Rutgers (as well as battling the weather from Hurricane Joaquin). On Friday we came out on top with a 1-0 win over Maryland. While on Sunday, through a well-fought battle, we came out with a 1-1 tie in 2OT against Rutgers. We knew going into the weekend that these games were going to be tough, and went into them knowing we would need to work hard for every inch of the field. Against Maryland, we came out and were able to get a scrappy goal in the box by our freshman Abby Kastroll. (By the way, Abby was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this week!! WOO!!) We took our grit to the Rutgers game as well and even though we did not get the win, it was a great team effort.
Off the field, the girls are getting excited about the Student-Athlete Homecoming dance that will be in a few weeks. It is organized through SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and gives teams the opportunity to have a fun, relaxed atmosphere with all of the other student-athletes.
Moving forward, this week in practice we are setting our focus on the upcoming games against Northwestern on Thursday and Illinois on Sunday. We look forward to hosting them after playing away for the past couple of weeks. Our team is still trying to find more ways to get the ball in the back of the net and we will continue to work on this going into these two games. The team is excited to continue with Big Ten play, especially after a well fought weekend where everyone put in a great effort. We hope to bring the same effort and intensity into this next weekend of games.
That's all for now, Go Blue!
#30 Christina Ordonez
