ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey senior goaltender Steve Racine was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week today (Tuesday, Dec. 1).
Despite suffering an injury on Saturday night (Nov. 28), Racine was at his best this weekend in two games against Dartmouth. On Friday night (Nov. 27), Racine earned his second career shutout in net, making 33 saves, including 12 in the third period of a 7-0 win over the Big Green. It is Michigan's first shutout of the season and Racine's first since Feb. 27, 2015 (W, 3-0 vs. Wisconsin).
On Saturday night, Racine made five saves in the first period but was forced out of the game at 14:01 of the first period due to a lower body injury. In his last five starts, Racine is 3-1-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. For Racine, it marks his fourth career weekly Big Ten honor.
No. 12 Michigan (7-2-2) is set to open its third season of Big Ten play this weekend with Wisconsin (3-5-4) in town for a two-game series, starting with Friday night's (Dec. 4) contest at 7:35 p.m. [ Tickets ]
