ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball senior guard Caris LeVert has been named the co-Big Ten Player of the Week, as announced today (Monday, Dec. 12) by the conference office. He shares the award with Illinois' Malcolm Hill.
LeVert had a historic week leading the Wolverines to a pair of wins over Northern Kentucky (77-62) and Youngstown State (105-46). On the second play of the game, LeVert rebounded a Northern Kentucky game-opening three miscue, drove the length of the court, made a layup while getting fouled and hit the "and-one" to reach the historic mark. He was not done however.
As the second half rolled, LeVert was quietly was on pace to record U-M's fourth triple-double of all-time. With a little less than 2:30 left, he grabbed the rebound he needed and followed with a nifty assist 20 seconds later to a wide open Mark Donnal for a layup to secure the historic honor as he closed with 13 points, 10 rebounds and a career-best 10 assists.
He followed with a 19-point, six-rebound and five-assist effort -- going 7-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from deep. LeVert's play was instrumental in helping teammate Derrick Walton Jr. get a U-M's second straight triple-double and fifth in program history as he had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists. With the game in hand, LeVert and Walton were removed from the game with nine minutes left.
