ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team and head coach Mark Rosen have announced the addition of Maddy Abbott, Cori Crocker and Jenna Lerg to the recruiting class for the 2015-16 academic year. The trio joins Carly Skjodt, who signed a National Letter of Intent in November.
"We're extremely excited about this 2015 class, not only the level of athlete that is coming in but the fact that the class adds tremendous depth to our team," Rosen said. "We only graduated one player in 2014 and this class brings depth in our defensive specialist/libero role, they bring depth in our outside hitting role, our middle blocker and setting roles, which is something we needed. I think they all have an opportunity to come in and compete from the very first day, not only to add depth but to get on the floor and make us more competitive."
Abbott, a setter, was a two-time first team All-CIF Division 3A selection at Sage Hill High School in Newport Coast, California. She helped Sage Hill to a state runner-up finish and a CIF Division 3A championship. A Newport Beach Daily Pilot "Dream Team" selection, Abbott was a second team all-county pick in 2014 and a third team selection as a junior. She played club volleyball for A4, Prime and Orange County as well as playing in the Junior Olympics in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Abbott is a six-time High Honor Roll selection and is the daughter of Michigan All-American and Major League Baseball player Jim Abbott.
Crocker, a middle blocker, was an all-county, all-conference and all-region selection her senior season at Brighton High School in Brighton, Michigan. Crocker was named the No. 46 Senior Ace by PrepVolleyball.com and was a nominee for Michigan Miss Volleyball. She attended Grand Ledge High School her first three years of high school and was a third team all-state selection in 2013. Crocker also plays basketball and was a first team all-state honoree as a junior, helping Grand Ledge to the state semifinals. She played club volleyball for Legacy and Oakland Elite and is an honor roll student.
Lerg, a defensive specialist/libero, was a first team all-state selection her senior year at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Lerg was a two-time all-region selection, a three-time CHSL All-Catholic League selection and a nominee for Michigan Miss Volleyball in 2014. Lerg was a first team Club All-American honoree and a Defensive Dandy Lions selection by PrepVolleyball.com. She played club volleyball for Legacy from 2011-15. A National Honor Society member, Lerg will play with her sister, Lindsey, who will be a senior on the team in 2015.
Abbott, Crocker and Lerg join Skjodt in the recruiting class. Skjodt was recently named PrepVolleyball.com's National Senior Player of the Year.
