Copp Signs Entry-Level Contract with Winnipeg Jets

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan ice hockey captain Andrew Copp signed an entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets, the organization announced on Thursday (March 26). The junior forward and Ann Arbor native will forgo his senior year at Michigan and report directly to Winnipeg for the stretch run of the NHL season.
A fourth-round selection (104th overall) by Winnipeg in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Copp finishes his Michigan career with 81 points (40G, 41A) in 107 games, including 11 power-play goals and five shorthanded goals.
Copp, an All-Big Ten second team selection in 2014-15, notched a career-best 31 points (14G, 17A) including 20 points (9G, 11A) in 19 Big Ten contests, finishing third on the team in overall scoring. After recording two points in his first 16 games as a Wolverine, Copp developed into a standout in the second half of his freshman campaign, notching 19 points in his final 22 games to help Michigan reach the CCHA championship game in 2013. He was named alternate captain before the start of the 2013-14 season and earned All-Big Ten honorable mention after recording 29 points (15G, 14A) in 33 games.
A lifelong Michigan ice hockey fan, Copp appears in a video commemorating the Wolverines' 1996 national championship. A star quarterback at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Copp set a state passing record with 557 yards in a game on Sept. 24, 2011. He split time playing football and hockey for the U.S. NTDP before committing solely to hockey. Copp will join former Michigan teammate Jacob Trouba in the Winnipeg organization.
