Michigan Selected to Host NCAA Regional as No. 3 Seed

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan softball team will be the No. 3 overall seed for the 2015 NCAA Tournament and host a regional for the 19th time in program history, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday (May 16) on ESPNU. U-M (51-6) is one of 16 schools to host a four-team NCAA Regional tournament with contests running Friday through Sunday (May 15-17) at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field.
Michigan is joined by regional No. 2 seed California, No. 3 seed Pittsburgh and No. 4 seed Oakland in the double-elimination event. Michigan opens regional play against Oakland (27-22) on Friday (May 15) at 6 p.m. following the regional opener between California (36-16) and Pittsburgh (35-20), which begins at 3:30 p.m. The tournament winner earns the right to advance to the NCAA Super Regional the following weekend.
All games in the Ann Arbor Regional will be aired live on either ESPNU or ESPN2.
Tickets for the regional tournament are priced at $12 for reserved chairback and $10 for reserved bleacher seats. General admission outfield bleacher tickets are $8.
Michigan softball season-ticket holders may purchase tickets on Monday and Tuesday (May 11-12) from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. by phone (734-764-0247 or 1-866-296-6849) or by visiting the U-M Ticket Office (1000 S. State St.). Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Wednesday (May 13) at 8:30 a.m. and may be purchased online at MGoBlue.com/tickets, by phone or in person at the U-M Ticket Office.
All tickets ordered online or over the phone will be held for will call unless purchasers opt for $15 overnight mailing. A print-at-home option will also be available. Ticket will call on game days will be located near the Wilpon Complex scoreboard at the entrance gate near the U-M Indoor Track Building.
The winner of the regional in Ann Arbor will move on to a Super Regional against the winner of the regional being hosted by Georgia in Athens, Georgia. That regional consists of No. 14 overall seed Georgia, Western Kentucky, North Carolina and Central Connecticut State. The Super Regional is a best two-of-three format with the winner advancing to the eight-team Women's College World Series, scheduled for May 28-June 3 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Michigan is making its 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance (1992-93, '95-2015). Michigan has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season since 1995. The Wolverines play host to a regional for the 19th time but only the second time since 2011. The Wolverines are 73-13 all-time in the NCAA Regional round and have won 16 regional titles. Last season, U-M battled back to defeat host Arizona State to win the Tempe, Arizona, regional and advance to its third straight Super Regional appearance.
