CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan linebackers Joe Bolden and James Ross were named to the 2015 Dick Butkus Award watch list on Tuesday, July 14, as announced by the foundation. This is the first time both Wolverine players have been named to the preseason watch list.
Both rising seniors, Bolden and Ross have combined to appear in 75 games with 34 starts in their Wolverine careers. Bolden started all 12 games as a junior and was second on the team with 102 tackles, while adding four TFLs and two sacks. Ross appeared in all 12 games a season ago, making seven starts. He recorded 32 tackles and three TFLs.
The award, which honors the nation's best linebacker, is in its 31st year and helps spread the word about Butkus' I Play CleanTM initiative which encourages teens to eat well, train hard, and play with attitude instead of resorting to steroids and related drugs.
Other key dates regarding the 2015 Butkus Award include the announcement of the semifinalists (Nov. 2), finalists (Nov. 23) and winner (Dec. 8).
