GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf senior Catherine Peters posted a second-round 75 today (Friday, July 24) to finish with a 154 total at the Meijer LPGA Classic being held at Blythefield Country Club. With her total, she will not advance to play during the weekend.
After playing the front nine at five over during yesterday's first round, Peters erased those memories by rattling off nine straight pars to start today's second round. With solid ball striking throughout the morning, she managed to reach seven of the front side greens in regulation. However, missed birdie opportunities on Nos. 2, 3, 6 and 8 would not allow her to post a red number on her scorecard as she made the turn even.
Peters recorded her first blemish of the second round after three-putting the 10th hole to move to one over. Clipping a tree off the 13th tee, a missed up and down on the 14th, and battling out of the thick rough on the 15th led to three straight bogeys midway through the back side as she climbed to four over with three to play.
Responding with a strong drive on the 16th, Peters was able to get back on track as she parred the 16th and closed the round with pars on the final two holes.
Peters played her way into Meijer LPGA Classic by winning the collegiate exemption qualifier.

Peters had 67 total putts (1.86 per hole) during her 36 holes. She averaged 244.50 yards on her drives and hit 13 of 26 fairways. After making 13 of 18 greens in regulation in the second round, she finished 21 of 36 for the tournament.
Peters had her father, Dale, caddie for her during her first LPGA event.
Peters played with 13-year LPGA veteran Candie Kung and rookie Sadena Parks during both of her rounds.
Peters is the second Wolverine to compete in the Meijer LPGA Classic as an amateur. Last year, Grace Choi was an invited exemption. She did not advance to the weekend after rounds of 84 and 79.

On today's round compared to yesterday's ... "There wasn't that big of a difference between my rounds from yesterday and today. I mean, I really had one poor decision the entire two rounds on the par-5 fifth hole yesterday. Overall, I just made a few mistakes with club selection, but I changed that today and it worked out much better, especially the first nine holes. I left some shots out there. I left myself some pretty long lag putts. Overall, I am pretty happy with how my first LPGA tournament went."
On the experience of playing in an LPGA event ... "Everyone was great. Everyone from Octagon was really welcoming. It wasn't just an LPGA tournament. It was run by Meijer and it just was such a fun event. You could see that with all the kids that were there, lining up outside the tents to get in for the youth program and to just be part of things. It was just a great atmosphere to be around. It was fun to play too. Was I nervous? Yeah, for the first couple of holes, then after that I was like this just feels like any other golf tournament. I mean, I heard the players talking about their kids on the practice green. Julie Inkster came over and talked to me today on the practice range. They (LPGA pros) were out there to just play, but they are just normal people like you and me. They were just down to earth people."
On having her father, Dale, on the bag ... "I had to keep reminding myself to keep things into perspective. The fact that we were both there and it was an LPGA event was just an amazing feeling. We were walking up 18 today and he said to me that this had been a great adventure and he had a lot of fun caddying. I personally enjoyed having him there on the bag. He has been on it my whole life. He has coached me and talked me through so many things my entire life, it just was a special experience."
On what she does now with this experience going into her final season ... "Nothing will intimidate me now (laughing). If I can play with these women, then I can play and win college events. I am excited for the season coming up."
