NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Michigan men's golf team received all-academic team honors today (Wednesday, July 29) by the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA). The Wolverines were one of 90 Division I men's golf program recognized for their work away from the course.
A total of 169 programs were honored by the GCAA. U-M was one of six Big Ten programs to earn the distinction as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern and Penn State joined the Wolverines in the prestigious list.
A week ago, Chris O'Neill was named U-M's 12th Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the GCAA for his work in the classroom. Andrew Yeager earned U-M's third Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor and garnered Academic All-Big Ten along with teammates O'Neill, Bryce Evon, Noori Hyun and Tom Swanson. Seven of U-M's eight-man roster were named as U-M's Athletic Academic Achievement recipients.
During the 2014-15 season, Michigan collected five top-five finishes, was the runner-up at the Big Ten Match Play Championships (Feb 14-15) and the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (March 6-7) and earned its first trip to an NCAA Regional in four years.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the grade-point averages for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
