Michigan Olympic Sport NSCA All-Americans
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Adam Coon, a sophomore on the 2014-15 University of Michigan wrestling team, has been named a 2015 Hammer Strength All-American, while 11 Wolverine student-athletes were selected as 2014-15 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and EAS Sports Nutrition.
Michigan's recipients of NSCA All-America honors include ice hockey's Andrew Copp, Zach Hyman and Justin Selman as well as Cyesha Goree (women's basketball), Justin Glanda (men's swimming and diving), Max Huntley (wrestling), Dominic Jamett (baseball), Thomas Orr (men's lacrosse), Alex Spaulding (rowing), Kelsey Susalla (softball) and Elizabeth Williams (water polo).
"It is an honor to recognize the relentless dedication to strength and conditioning that these student-athletes have demonstrated during the academic year," said Mike Favre, the Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning at the University of Michigan. "The day-to-day commitment to their physical development is a testament to the character that is the foundation of all our sport programs here at the University of Michigan."
Coon, an NCAA heavyweight finalist in 2014-15, is the first Wolverine student-athlete to earn Hammer Strength All-America accolades. For consideration for the award, athletes were judged on their personal qualities and achievements in terms of work ethic, leadership, consistency and academic performance.
It is the sixth year that student-athletes from Michigan have received the NSCA award. The program recognizes collegiate athletes whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of the strength coach, reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning. These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments as well as their integrity as student-athletes.
