ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team was perfect in doubles and dropped just one singles match on the final day of competition at the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 16) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Maize and Blue was solid in doubles play, as each of Michigan's teams took 6-3 wins. Sophomore Brienne Minor and junior Mira Ruder-Hook bounced back from a setback on Saturday (Oct. 15) to get a win, while freshman Chiara Lommer and junior Alex Najarian won together for the second time this weekend.
U-M turned its attention to Miami in singles play, winning five-of-six matches from the Hurricanes. Junior Kara Hall was the first off court, breezing to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sara Culbertson. One court over from Hall, Ruder-Hook followed a few minutes later with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Silvia Fuentes.
Miami took its only match of the day when Sinead Lohan knocked off Kate Fahey in two sets.
Michigan got back to its winning ways by grabbing the final three matches on court. Lommer came away with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win over Yolimar Ogando for the next Wolverine win.
Minor won the final two games of her second set to seal a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Estela Perez-Somarriba. The Wolverine sophomore recovered from early breaks in both sets to win her third match of the weekend.
Najarian recovered from dropping her first set in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Maci Epstein. Najarian broke a 3-3 tie in the third set by breaking Epstein for a 4-3 lead. The break ignited Najarian, who won the final two games to end the day with a U-M victory.
