
Cerda Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Ivo Cerda of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named to the Academic All-District Five team, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced Thursday (Oct. 27). Cerda will now advance to the Academic All-America team ballot; first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 22.
To be eligible, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in his second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
In his first year eligible for the award, the Santiago, Chile, native has started 14 of 15 matches this year and is tied for fifth on the team in points with four. Prior to the 2016 season, Cerda was named the U-M Academic Rookie of the Year for earning the highest GPA of any freshman student-athlete. He is an engineering major.
Cerda and the Wolverines will close out the 2016 regular season on Sunday (Oct. 30), hosting the No. 1 Maryland Terrapins at 1 p.m. from U-M Soccer Stadium. The match, which will honor U-M's senior class, will be shown live nationally via the Big Ten Network.
