
Wolverines Win Third Straight Match

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team ran its winning streak to three matches by winning the doubles point and the first four singles matches in a 5-2 victory over Washington on Friday (Feb. 26) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Maize and Blue jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after wrapping up the doubles point. Michigan held breaks on all three courts, as juniors Jathan Malik and Kevin Wong were the first off court with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Malik delivered an ace out wide for the match's deciding point.
Moments later, junior/sophomore Davis Crocker and freshman Lubomir Cuba took a 6-3 win at No. 3. The duo broke at love for a 4-2 lead en route to the victory.
Sophomore Runhao Hua was responsible for Michigan's second point, getting off court quickly at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Hua was serving for the match at 5-2, but was broken. Hua wasted no time in the next game, breaking back on a running forehand down the line for the match's final point.
Sophomore Carter Lin was his seventh consecutive match, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Lin jumped out to early leads in both sets to take the win.
Junior/sophomore Alex Knight coasted to a 6-0 first-set win before finding himself down 3-1 in the second set. He ripped off the next five games, serving out the match for the 6-3 second-set win as the deciding U-M point.
Wong scored the next point for Michigan, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10) win at No. 6. Wong fought off match point in the 10-point tiebreaker, down 9-8. He made good on his second attempt at match point, winning 12-10 to take the match.
UW got on the board by winning the final two matches to provide the 5-2 final score.
Michigan completes a four-match homestand on Sunday (Feb. 28), hosting Tulsa at noon at the Varsity Tennis Center, where admission is free.
