SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The 14th-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team opened action in South Bend with a dominant showing in the season debut of the distance medley relay (DMR) at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Friday (Feb. 5) at the Loftus Sports Center.
MID-DISTANCE/DISTANCE
The Wolverines made their collective DMR season debut in style, running two squads that colored the top of the standings Maize and Blue. The 'A' relay of sophomore Claire Borchers, senior Danielle Pfeifer and fifth-year seniors Devon Hoppe and Laura Addison timed 11:23.45, and the 'B' relay ran 11:23.93, consisting of junior Jamie Morrissey, junior/sophomore Jaimie Phelan, senior/junior Gina McNamara and sophomore/freshman Rachel Barrett.
The race also provided U-M a look at conference competition, as squads from Minnesota, Michigan State and Ohio State ran in South Bend.
In the 5K race, junior Corinne Florie set a lifetime PR running in the second heat, taking nearly 20 seconds off her previous indoor best. Florie led a trio of Wolverines and finish fourth overall, with fifth-year senior Anna Pasternak (12th) and junior/sophomore Sophie Linn (22nd) also competing.
SPRINTS
Senior Cindy Ofili and junior Sami Michell both qualified for tomorrow's (Saturday, Feb. 6) three-heat semifinal in the 60-meter hurdles (10:45 a.m.), with Ofili winning her heat in 8.205 for the third seed overall.
THROWS
Sophomore Kayla Deering set a new PR to win the first flight of the weight throw, leading three Wolverines in competition.
JUMPS
Sophomore Claire Kieffer-Wright finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.77 meters (5-9.75 ft.) on her third attempt.
Freshman Jeryne Fish won the first flight of the long jump, finishing eighth overall with a mark of 5.76 meters (18-10.75 ft.).
AKRON INVITATIONAL

AKRON, Ohio -- The 14th-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team was represented by its pole vaulters at the Akron Invitational on Friday (Feb. 5) at Stiles Athletics Field House.
Senior Claire Tewksbury led the way for a three U-M vaulters in competition. The local product of Dexter, Michigan, set a new personal best when she cleared 3.66 meters on her third effort. It marks the first time Tewksbury cleared the 12-foot barrier, and she finished fourth overall.
