
Wolverines Run Winning Streak to Four

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 7-0 win over Detroit on Friday afternoon (Feb. 5) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan jumped out to the early lead with a pair of convincing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 for the doubles point. At No. 3, junior Kevin Wong and freshman Gabe Tishman raced out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 6-1 win that was sealed by a Tishman overhead at the net.
Moments later, Michigan's No. 3 pair of juniors Jathan Malik and Tyler Gardiner delivered an identical score for the doubles point.
As was the case this morning against Cleveland State, Michigan won all six first sets in singles action to take control of the match. Wong put Michigan's second point on the scoreboard, winning 10 straight games to close out a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Tishman was next to finish, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Fellow freshman Lubomir Cuba supplied the clinching point by winning in straight sets at No. 6 (6-4, 6-0).
Sophomore Runhao Hua came through with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 in his first singles action of the day. Freshman Myles Schalet took advantage of a late break in the first set for a 6-4 win before winning six straight games in the second for the point at No. 3.
Junior/sophomore Alex Knight kept the Wolverines perfect on the day, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. It marks his first time at the top spot in the singles lineup.
Michigan continues home action on Sunday (Feb. 7), hosting No. 24 Duke at noon. Admission is free.
