ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior heavyweight Adam Coon was named the Big Ten Conference Wrestler of the Week in recognition of his performance in the Wolverines' weekend wins over Maryland and Rutgers, the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 9). It is the first weekly honor for U-M this season and the second for Coon in his career.
Coon posted a pair of first-period falls in the Wolverines' weekend road victories. He pinned Maryland's Dawson Peck at the 2:13 mark last Friday (Feb. 5) and closed out the trip with fall at 1:25 against Rutgers' 13th-ranked Billy Smith on Sunday (Feb. 7), putting exclamation point on Michigan's late comeback against the Scarlet Knights.
The Wolverine junior owns a perfect 14-0 record on the season. He boasts five pins and has earned bonus points in each of his last six matches. In all, he has tallied bonus points in 10 of his 14 seasons.
Michigan will close out its Big Ten schedule this Friday (Feb. 12), hosting Purdue at 7 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. In celebration of Fan Appreciation and Senior Nights, tickets and hot dogs are $1 apiece. Purchase tickets in advance through the U-M Ticket Office.
