Seventy Wolverines Garner Winter Academic All-Big Ten Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Big Ten Conference office released its winter 2015-16 Academic All-Big Ten teams on Wednesday (March 23), with 70 Michigan student-athletes earning recognition for their work in the classroom.
Criteria for making the Academic All-Big Ten team includes being a letterwinner in at least their second academic year at their institution and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The breakdown of the 70 Michigan student-athletes on the list is two from men's basketball, five from men's gymnastics, eight from ice hockey, 22 from men's swimming and diving, six from women's basketball, five from women's gymnastics, 16 from women's swimming and diving and six from wrestling.
Men's swimmer PJ Ransford, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, was recognized as one of 12 winter honorees in the conference to have maintained an unblemished cumulative GPA.
Three-time selections included Nolan Novak from men's gymnastics, Steve Racine and Justin Selman from ice hockey, Dylan Bosch, Peter Brumm, Nick Killeen, Jeremy Raisky, Will Raynor, Paul Soley and Matt Zimmerman from men's swimming and diving, Madison Ristovski from women's basketball, Austin Sheppard and Lindsay Williams from women's gymnastics, Sarah Kamstra, Zoe Mattingly and Sharalynn Missiuna of women's swimming and diving and Ben Ralston of wrestling.
The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the fall and spring seasons. U-M had 76 honorees in the fall.
The Distinguished Scholar Award will be awarded at the end of the academic year. Student-athletes eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school.
