INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Senior 133-pounder Rossi Bruno of the University of Michigan wrestling team nabbed one of six at-large bids to the NCAA Wrestling Championships when the 49 at-large selections were announced today (Tuesday, March 8). Bruno's selection ups the Wolverines' qualifying contingent to seven.
Now a four-time NCAA qualifier, Bruno is 14-11 in his final collegiate season, including five wins against the NCAA field this year. He took 10th place at the Big Ten Championships last weekend (March 5-6) -- one spot outside of the automatic qualifying bids. He is ranked No. 15 in the most-recent coaches poll and No. 20 in the RPI. He was an NCAA All-American in 2015, finishing eighth at 133 pounds.
Joining Bruno at the NCAA Championships will be U-M's six automatic qualifiers who all placed among their weight classes' allocated number at the Big Ten Championships last weekend (March 5-6) -- senior/junior Conor Youtsey (125 pounds), sophomore Alec Pantaleo (149), junior Brian Murphy (157), junior Domenic Abounader (184), graduate student Max Huntley (197) and junior Adam Coon (Hwt).
The NCAA will release seeds and full brackets at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, March 9) as part of a selection show on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championships is slated for Thursday-Saturday, March 17-19, at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
