ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A total of 10 University of Michigan varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA, in an announcement made Wednesday (April 13). The number matches last year's figure -- the highest total for U-M teams since the NCAA began tracking the data in 2004-05.
These 10 teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
For a second consecutive year, Michigan is the only Big Ten Conference institution to earn recognition awards in both football and men's basketball, with men's basketball now having earned the award in five straight years.
U-M teams to receive Public Recognition Awards covering the four-year span of academic years from 2011-12 to 2014-15 are:
- Football
- Men's Basketball
- Men's Golf
- Women's Golf
- Men's Gymnastics
- Women's Gymnastics
- Softball
- Men's Track and Field
- Women's Track and Field
- Wrestling
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20.
