SIENA HEIGHTS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team sent a number of athletes to Siena Heights University's O'Laughlin Stadium on Saturday (April 16) for the Don Kleinow Invitational.
With the majority of competing athletes out west in California, these Wolverines stayed in-state for come Michigan-based competition.
The day was highlighted by freshman Alasgar Mammedov's victory in the high jump. He cleared 1.98 meters (6-6 ft.) to take the win, while senior/junior Stephen Sykes tied for eighth.
The Maize and Blue had three athletes in the pole vault and set one PR with a pair of top-five finishes.
Junior/sophomore Michael Hovater was fourth, the only Wolverine to come in over 4.70 meters, as he cleared the bar at 4.80m (15-9 ft.).
Freshman Kevin Haughn was fifth at 4.70 meters (15-5 ft.), and his classmate Nick Burkhalter also competed, setting a personal-best at that same height.
U-M freshman Andrew Liskowitz competed in the 6k shot put as an unattached athlete, and threw 18.30 meters (60-0.5 ft.) to win the event. That performance also qualifies Liskowitz for the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships this summer, which had a qualifying standard of 18.25 meters (59-10.5 ft.).
Junior/sophomore Cody Snavely finished fifth at 1,500 meters, running as the No. 2 collegian, and ran 4:00.27. Sophomore/freshman Kyle Kroon also competed.
U-M travels to Columbus, Ohio, next weekend for the two-day Jesse Owens Invitational (April 22-23).
