CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan center Graham Glasgow was selected by the Detroit Lions during the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft held Friday (April 29). The Lions used the 95th overall pick in the draft to choose the fifth-year senior at Roosevelt University.
Glasgow becomes the 31st Wolverine drafted by the Lions all-time. He is the first U-M player chosen by the organization since Jeff Backus was a first-round choice in the 2001 draft.
One of the team's leaders in 2015, Glasgow led the offensive line as the Wolverines won the time of possession battle in 10 games during the season. U-M ranked ninth nationally in that category, owning the ball for an average of 33:27 per contest. Glasgow was named the team's Hugh R. Rader Memorial Award recipient as the top offensive lineman and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference accolades from both the coaches and media.
An Aurora, Illinois native, he appeared in 42 career games along the offensive line and made 37 starting assignments. Glasgow made a total of 22 starts at center (13 in 2015, nine in 2013) with his other 15 appearances coming at the guard position.
In the classroom, Glasgow earned Academic All-Big Ten honors each of his final three seasons. He graduated with a degree in economics. He came to Michigan as a walk-on but earned a scholarship in the spring practice portion of the 2013 season.
Glasgow continues Michigan's string of consecutive years with at least one player selected in the NFL Draft. The Wolverines have had a player chosen in 77 consecutive drafts.
The 2016 NFL Draft will continue from Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago on Saturday (April 30). Fans can watch the 2016 draft on ESPN or the NFL Network.
