
Michigan Breezes Past Rutgers in B1G Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis dropped just one set on the day en route to a 7-0 win over Rutgers on Saturday afternoon (April 9) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan wrapped up the doubles point quickly, first with sophomores Alex Najarian and Mira Ruder-Hook easing to a 6-0 victory at No. 2. The No. 1 duo of freshmen Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey quickly followed with a 6-1 win to put Michigan ahead of the Scarlet Knights, 1-0.
U-M won five of six first sets in singles action, highlighted by senior Ronit Yurovsky, Fahey and Najarian dropping a combined two games.
Fahey was the first Wolverine off court, making quick work of her opponent in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Yurovsky was next to finish, breaking Gina Li to win her second set, 6-4, after taking the first by a 6-0 margin.
Najarian clinched the match for the Maize and Blue, serving out the second set at love for a 6-1, 6-4.
Minor followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3, with sophomore Kara Hall wrapping up a straight-set win at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. In the final game, Hall rallied from 30-0 to break her opponent on a deuce point for the win.
Ruder-Hook was the final Wolverine off court, rallying from a 6-3 first-set loss to take a 6-2 win in the second. With the team match in hand, Ruder-Hook played a 10-point tiebreaker for the match. She jumped out to a 3-1 lead and did not look back in a 10-3 win for Michigan's seventh point of the afternoon.
Michigan completes weekend action tomorrow (Sunday, April 10), hosting Maryland at noon.
