
Michigan to Head to Central Michigan for Midweek Matchup

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Hot off a perfect 5-0 week, the No. 19-ranked University of Michigan baseball team (34-12) is set to face Central Michigan in a road game on Wednesday (May 11) in Mount Pleasant before heading to Columbus, Ohio, for a Big Ten series at Ohio State (May 13-15). After five games at home, the midweek matchup marks the start of a four-game road swing for the Wolverines, who have not played an away game since the end of April.

» Michigan recently wrapped up a perfect 5-0 week with a home-and-home sweep of Eastern Michigan and a Big Ten series sweep of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Despite an impressive 16-3 home record, the Wolverines are also 13-8 while on the road.
» The Central Michigan Chippewas come into Tuesday's game with a 15-33 overall record and a 6-6 home record. CMU most recently defeated Oakland (May 9) in 6-3 fashion, but the Chippewas have not won more than two consecutive games so far this season. Despite the losing record, Central Michigan finished the 2015 season with a 35-22 overall record and a 20-7 first-place finish in the MAC West Division. Currently, the Chips are batting at a .251 clip, and the pitching staff has a combined 5.17 ERA on the season.
» After going a perfect 5-0 last week, Michigan is still holding strong in numerous top-25 collegiate baseball rankings. The Wolverines currently rank the highest in the Perfect Game Poll with a No. 16-ranking while also earning a No. 19 selection to the NCBWA Poll and a top-30 selection to the Collegiate Baseball News Poll.
» With five players batting over .300 on the season, Michigan currently ranks ninth in the country with a .317 team batting average, coming it at second in the Big Ten. Michigan also has four starters with an on-base percentage over .400, and the team's .405 on-base average also ranks first among Big Ten opponents.
» Sophomore Jake Bivens currently leads the impressive Michigan offense with a .382 batting average and 27 multi-hit games on the season. He also leads the Wolverines with 73 hits and has started all 46 games in the infield for Michigan.
» With 6.0 IP and 11 Ks last weekend, junior LHP Brett Adcock has surpassed the 230 career-K mark and now ranks sixth all-time in Michigan history with 234 career strikeouts. Senior LHP Evan Hill also ranks 13th in Michigan's all-time history with 199 career strikeouts.
» Michigan's 34-12 record through the first 46 games is the team's best start since 1987, when the Wolverines won both the regular-season and Big Ten Conference Tournament titles to advance to an NCAA Regional. Led by historic figures like Jim Abbott and Mike Ignasiak, the 1987 squad finished the year with a 52-12 overall record.
