ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan strength and conditioning coaches Russell Barbarino and Jon Sanderson were each named Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the College Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) at the 2016 National Conference, held at the Fort Worth Omni Hotel in Texas on Thursday, May 5.
"Russ Barbarino and Jon Sanderson personify all that the Master Strength & Conditioning Coach honor represents," said Mike Favre, the Michigan director of strength and conditioning. "Russ and Jon have faithfully served coaches and student-athletes for numerous years, at several different universities. I am happy to have both Russ and Jon as members of the Olympic Sports S&C Department and the University of Michigan."
Barbarino is in his first season at U-M and oversees women's basketball and field hockey. Sanderson is in his seventh year and oversees men's basketball and men's and women's golf.
"This is an incredible honor for Russ and Jon," added CSCCa executive director, Dr. Chuck Stiggins. "Being named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach signifies a commitment to the student-athlete, the University of Michigan athletic program, and the strength and conditioning profession. We are honored to have them as members of our association and to have them join the ranks of the Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches. They are truly a model of outstanding strength and conditioning professionals."
The title of Master Strength & Conditioning Coach (MSCC) is the highest honor in the field and is given to those who represent professionalism, knowledge, experience, and expertise, as well as longevity in the field.
