ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior centerfielder Sierra Lawrence of the University of Michigan softball team was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week in recognition of her play against Central Michigan and Penn State, the league office announced Monday (May 2). It is her second weekly honor of the season and the fourth of her career.
Lawrence batted .692 (9-for-13) over the four-game stretch last week, boasting a .750 on-base percentage and 1.462 slugging percentage. She matched her career best with three hits apiece against Central Michigan (April 27) and in the second Penn State game, and was a perfect 5-for-5 with two walks in the PSU doubleheader on Saturday (April 30). She posted home runs in three straight games, including the go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the seventh of the PSU series opener.
Michigan has claimed six Big Ten Player of the Week accolades this season as well as one pitching and one freshman honor. Lawrence previously earned conference weekly honors after hitting .500 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in February.
Michigan will close out the regular season at home this weekend, hosting Rutgers for a three-game set at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. The series kicks with the Wolverines' annual Pink Game at 6 p.m. on Friday (May 6), continues with a 1 p.m. slate on Saturday (May 7) and a Senior Day noon game on Sunday (May 8). Tickets are available through the U-M Ticket Office.
