
Five Wolverines Selected to All-Big Ten Conference Teams

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Five University of Michigan baseball student-athletes were named to the All-Big Ten teams, the conference office announced Tuesday (May 24) prior to the 2016 Big Ten Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska.
Senior Cody Bruder led the way with a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten First Team and was also a Sportsmanship Award winner, while junior designated hitter Carmen Benedetti and junior pitcher Brett Adcock received second team accolades. Junior catcher Harrison Wenson and sophomore infielder Jake Bivens rounded out the All-Big Ten selections with third team honors.
A two-year player by way of Orange Coast College, Bruder currently ranks second in the Big Ten Conference with a .384 batting average and has compiled a .372 batting average through 23 conference games. He ranks first among Big Ten players with 84 total hits and is tied for second with 18 doubles on the year. Bruder, who recently earned the first Big Ten Weekly honor of his two-year career at Michigan, ranks third in the Big Ten with 52 RBI to date. In addition to his athletic success, Bruder is also Michigan's Sportsmanship Award honoree.
A native of Gross Poine, Michigan, Benedetti leads the Wolverines with a .472 on-base percentage -- good for fourth in the Big Ten. The junior utility player has compiled a .332 batting average and is tied with Bruder for second in the conference with 18 doubles. He also leads Michigan with 44 walks on the season and has picked up three home runs.
Joining Benedetti on the All-Big Ten Second Team is Adcock, a junior starting pitcher from Kawkawlin, Michigan. The lefty has amassed a 7-4 record on the year with a team-leading 96 strikeouts on the season. Adcock has appeared in 14 games with 13 starts during the 2016 regular season, posting a 2.66 ERA through 74.1 innings pitched.
A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Wenson currently boasts a .300 batting average with a team-leading .507 slugging percentage and a conference-leading 56 RBI on the year. The junior catcher also leads Michigan with eight homers through the regular season and has an on-base percentage of .357 with 17 doubles. Wenson is also a semifinalist for the prestigious Johnny Bench Award.
After finishing up the 2015 season as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Bivens earns a third team selection as a sophomore infielder. He ranks second in the conference with 52 runs scored as Michigan's lead-off hitter and has posted a .357 batting average with a .438 on-base percentage through 54 games this season. Bivens also ranks third among conference players with 80 hits on the year with 25 multi-hit outings this year.
In other specialty awards, Minnesota's Matt Fiedler was named Player of the Year, while Illinois' Cody Sedlock was named Pitcher of the Year and Nebraska's Chad Luensmann was selected as the Freshman of the Year. Minnesota's John Anderson was named the league's Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Gophers to the Big Ten regular-season title.
The Michigan Wolverines recently earned a spot in the Big Ten Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4-seeded Ohio State in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday (May 25) at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. First pitch is scheduled for 9 p.m. CDT.
