ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head women's golf coach Jan Dowling announced today (Wednesday, June 29) that Mandi Morrow will join the Wolverines as an assistant coach. Morrow takes over for former assistant Mary Mattson, who departed the program to become a full-time student as she pursues her master's degree in social work from U-M.
"This is an incredible opportunity and one that I could not pass on," said Morrow. "Jan is a highly respected coach in college golf, and I could not be more thrilled to team up with her to continue the success she has already had in just a few short years. The University of Michigan women's golf team is going in a fantastic direction, and I cannot wait to see the heights it has the potential to get to. Go Blue!"
"I have known Mandi for quite some time and feel extremely fortunate to have her join our program," said Dowling. "I trust and respect her and know that she will help our program in a big way from the moment she steps on campus. Coaching is in her blood, and she knows what it takes to be great.
"Mandi is passionate about learning and growing as a coach," added Dowling. "With that, I'm confident she will dive into every facet of our coaching, recruiting and mentoring duties and privileges. Her tremendous experience, passion, work ethic and drive is going to help us build on what we have accomplished to date and assist us in developing into a championship contending team each and every year. I can't wait for her to get started this summer and for our team to work with Mandi."
Morrow spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane. With the Green Wave, she helped the program to back-to-back NCAA regional appearances, culminating in an NCAA Finals appearance in 2015. The Green Wave nearly made it two straight NCAA championships appearances, missing the 2016 cut by a single shot.
Before her stint at Tulane, Morrow spent a year at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2013-14. She helped the Jaguars to five top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at the Summit League Championship (April 20-23).
A native of Kent, Ohio, Morrow played for her father, Mike, at Kent State (2008-12) and helped the Flashes to four consecutive Mid-American Conference (MAC) crowns. She was a two-time second team All-MAC selection (2011, '12) and finished among the top 10 at the MAC Championships twice in her career.
While an undergrad at Kent State, Morrow participated in the Athletic Leadership Academy and was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative. She also worked in the athletics department in marketing and athletic advancement. She earned her degree in sport administration in 2012 and was also a volunteer assistant with Kent State women's golf program during the Fall of 2013.
