ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a decision necessitated by a team-scheduling shift, the Michigan Football Youth Day Presented by Chobani will move to the spring from the previous late-summer time frame.
Further information about the spring event, which also served as a singular gathering point for athletic donors and media members, will be provided following the 2016 football season.
This change will be in effect for the 2016-17 school year and expected in future years as well.
"We don't make this decision lightly as it impacts a wide range of people including our youngest and most enthusiastic fans," said Kurt Svoboda, associate athletic director. "In considering our program's fall practice schedule, it became evident that a spring date offered far more flexibility than an August time frame as our team prepares for the season. We've appreciated the input from around our community and will look forward both to the season as well as a reimagined opportunity for area youth to interact with our student-athletes."
Michigan will open its season on Saturday, Sept. 3, hosting Hawaii for a noon kickoff on ESPN.
