ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team held Minnesota scoreless for nearly seven minutes of the second quarter and outscored the Gophers, 22-6, in the frame en route to an 84-69 win over Minnesota on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 15) inside Crisler Center.
Michigan had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore Hallie Thome's second straight double-double of 20 points and a career-high 17 boards. Junior Katelynn Flaherty turned in 22 points, including six three-pointers, with two rebounds and an assist. Freshman Kysre Gondrezick went for 17 points, three assists and three rebounds, with senior captain Siera Thompson recording 12 points, four board, seven assists and two steals. U-M committed just 11 turnovers on the day to Minnesota's 22, turning the Gophers' miscues into 19 points. The Wolverines held a 40-38 edge on the glass and got 20 second-chance points in the game.

Michigan trailed by one point in the early going but responded with a 13-3 run that featured back-to-back triples from Flaherty, a triple from Gondrezick and a layup from Thome to give U-M a 21-12 lead with 1:51 left in the frame.
U-M opened the second quarter on a 14-0 run and never looked back, not allowing Minnesota to score until 3:36 remained in the period. Flaherty opened the quarter with a triple and followed with another one at the 5:06 mark as Minnesota called timeout, trailing 37-16. Thome scored on U-M's next possession, pushing the Wolverine lead to 23, 39-16. Thompson and sophomore Nicole Munger followed with triples, and Thome finished out the scoring in the quarter as U-M took a 47-22 lead into the break.
The Wolverines scored the first four points of the third quarter on back-to-back layups from Gondrezick and Flaherty to push the lead to 29 points.
Minnesota outscored the Wolverines, 27-18, in the final period, but Michigan's lead never dipped below 15.
U-M is back in action on Thursday (Jan. 19), traveling to Maryland to take on the Terrapins at 6 p.m. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
