EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Freshman Harrison Brown and senior Davis Crocker of the University of Michigan men's tennis team won five consecutive matches en route to the doubles title at the Big Ten Indoor Singles and Doubles Championships, held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 27-29) at the MSU Tennis Center.
The duo cruised through the first two rounds with victories over Matt Galush and Noah Sutter of Penn State (8-4) and Jasper Koenen and Jack Winkler of Michigan State (8-3). The pair earned consecutive tiebreak wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, 8-7 (5) and 8-7 (3), to advance to the final, where they defeated Will Davis and Piotr Smielana of Iowa, 8-4. All the doubles matches were played Friday (Oct. 27).
Crocker also had success in singles play, earning two victories to advance to the quarterfinal round.
The duo of sophomore Nick Beaty and freshman Kristofer Siimar had two victories in doubles play to earn a quarterfinal berth.
Michigan will be back in action Wednesday through Sunday (Nov. 1-5) when seniors Alex Knight and Runhao Hua will compete in the ITA National Fall Championship in Indian Wells, California. Other members of the squad will travel south to Sarasota, Florida, to take part in the Lakewood Ranch Invitational, Thursday through Sunday (Nov. 2-5).
