
Cerda Repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-District Honoree

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Ivo Cerda of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named to the Academic All-District Five team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday (Nov. 9). Cerda will now advance to the Academic All-America team ballot; first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced at a later date.
To be eligible, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in his second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
An all-district honoree a year ago as well, the Santiago, Chile, native has started all 14 matches he has played in this season. The tri-captain has scored three goals to go along with two assists for the 2017 Big Ten champion Wolverines.
A cellular and molecular biology major, two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, and two-time U-M Academic Achievement winner, Cerda also was named the U-M Academic Rookie of the Year for earning the highest GPA of any freshman student-athlete in 2016.
Cerda and the top-seeded Wolverines will take on the fifth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the first Big Ten Tournament semifinal Friday (Nov. 10) at noon from Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
